Adventure, challenges, and disruptive technologies have always been something I loved. It was therefore no surprise, that I landed up in a technical career as a Geomatics academic and choosing research that pushes the edge, built around disruptive technologies like drones and their role in contemporary data capture.
In 2010, after completing my Master in Earth Observation and Geoinformatics with the University of Twente, I returned to my home country Zimbabwe with a great fascination for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles or Drones and their role in urban data collection. The 2017 win of the Marina Van Damme Award opened a world of opportunities for me. Through the award, I set up my small startup consultancy , created contacts across the globe and am now a licensed UAV pilot registered with the Civil Aviation Authority of South Africa. This drone and sanitary pad project have been very exciting and truly rewarding.
My plan is to strive for global academic, to be recognised for my contributions on drones and similar technologies in transforming geomatics data collection. I also hope to nurture my small startup consultancy and grow it more in the years ahead.
